Woodbury Commons is an outlet center located in Central Valley, New York. The center is part of the Chelsea Premium Outlets group and takes its name from the town in which it is located. Opened in late 1985, expanded in 1993, and again in 1998, the mall now has 220 stores occupying more than 800,000 square feet (72,000 m²) and is one of the largest contiguous outlet centers in the world. Due to its size, different areas are color coded to help visitors orient themselves, on weekends trolleys are available to transport shoppers from the parking lots and around the mall.

  1. On our way to visit friends in Rifton, we stopped in Woodbury to inspect the much heralded outlets. Not being a native New Yorker I was unaware of the reputation the city had for its retail opportunities. Woodbury has a very pleasant cityscape and surrounding landscape and they remind me of the quaint hamlets one pictures from the pages of a Washington Irving or Nathaniel Hawthorne book. The outlets definitely do not disappoint. Not being a shopper myself I explored the environs while the others bargain-hunted. I thought B&Bs would do very well in the Central Valley. No wonder why my friends moved away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan for peace and solitude of the Hudson.

  2. Last weekend with the crowds doesn’t leave you with the impression that a recession is happening in our country. We were getting an early start on Christmas anyway.
