Steve’s friend Katie brought over some gifts from Williams-Sonoma, and since he writes that she was late from returning from Woodbury Commons, then I’m guessing she got some great deals on those aprons!

HappyD from aozora was disappointed in the deals she found (or rather, didn’t find) at the outlet center during a 2.5 hour shopping break, but she still took some really cool fall color pictures so she got something anyway.

Shawne from Fabulous and Fit will be going up to The Commons with her friend Melissa and while it sounds like she just plans to walk I’ll bet she’ll get some discount shopping in!

In the article Downturn? What Downturn? published in the Times Harold-Record of Hudson Valley it was pointed out that sales at Woodbury Commons is strong and that many stores are hiring. Well duh! We headed West across New York State and North to Woodbury Commons, a high end fashion retail outlet complex. We arrived early and the place was almost empty. Alice and I have big expectations were slowly let down as we went into each department store and finding only small discounts, used items or just ugly cloths. We tried and tried to make the most of the Chloe, YSL, Gucci, Juicy Couture, Valentino, Missioni, TSL, Jimmy Choo etc stores but it was just useless. On Saturday we made a trip to Woodbury Common, a designer outlet (like Parndorf in Austria) which is about one bus-hour from New York. It was really fantastic, because we saw the beautiful countryside and the woods are so colourful at the moment (Indian Summer). The outlet wasn’t that amazing and not really cheaper than Manhattan, but maybe this is only my opinion, because I already know where to go in the city We spent the whole day in Woodbury and arrived back in New York at 8 pm. I was so tired from the day, that I didn’t want to do something in the evening, but go to sleep.

Tres tres Chic from The Manolo Challenge says she is going shoe shopping at Woodbury Commons after a wedding. Aren’t you supposed to do that before a wedding though?

Shoes Safer Bet Than Stocks?? That’s the headline at the Business Sheet in an article that quotes Jimmy Choo chief executive Josh Shulman:

“Apparently, shoes are a safer investment these days than stocks” - so said Jimmy Choo chief executive Josh Shulman last week, surveying the rows of stacked and spindly heels arrayed before him in the brand’s Milan showroom. He was attempting to explain why the New York and Los Angeles stores had reported better-than-ever sales at the same time Congress and the Federal Reserve decided Wall Street needed a rescue package.

The shpoping was awesome, and there was some great bargins to be had, Megan got 2 pairs of sneakers for $70 for the pair, and Tony got some really nice short sleaved Quicksilver shirts for $10.48. We spent a good 5 hours shopping there before we needed to head back to NY to return the rental car.

The Times Online wrote an article called Lucia love: the beauty and bargains of outlet shopping which briefly mentioned Woodbury Commons: “took me to see the daddy of them all: Woodbury Common in upstate New York” (technically it isn’t really in upstate NY though).

In the Herald Online newspapers there was an article on economic aid to Belmont Park which included this reference:

TAG Heuer is a Swiss watchmaker known for its sports watches and chronographs. It is a division of leading luxury goods company LVMH. The company motto is “Swiss Avant-Garde Since 1860″. History of TAG Heuer
In 1860 Edouard Heuer founded a watchmaker’s workshop in Saint-Imier in the Swiss Jura Mountains. It was the start of an extraordinary watchmaking story. Chronographs first appeared in the company’s archives in 1882. Edouard Heuer never ceased to improve and refine his precision-leading time instruments. He was granted many patents for his innovations and his collection of pocket chronographs was awarded a Silver Medal at the World’s Fair in Paris in 1889.

The Time of Trip, patented in 1911, was the first 12-hour dashboard chronograph for cars and aircrafts. It indicated time and duration of the trip and was a great success with aviator clubs. In 1916, TAG Heuer patented the Mikrograph, the world’s first mechanical stopwatch accurate to 1/100th of a second. At the time, other timing instruments could only measure to the nearest fifth of a second. This new development revolutionized science, industry and watchmaking, and made TAG Heuer the natural choice as the official supplier of timing instruments for the 1920 Olympic Games.

To meet the demanding world of sports, TAG Heuer developed in 1939 he first water-resistant wrist-chronographs. The brand also introduced at that time the first dashboard timer.On February 20, 1962, American astronaut John Glenn was wearing a TAG Heuer stopwatch when he piloted the spacecraft on the first manned U.S. orbital mission.

In 1984, years after the quartz explosion and the period of digital display chronograph, TAG Heuer launched the first quartz chronograph with an analog display - the 2000 chronograph. The 1990s was marked by the return of the automatic chronographs. TAG Heuer reintroduced the classic Carrera, the Monaco and the Monza. These timepieces were modernized to offer new functions meeting contemporary needs, yet they remained faithful to the spirit of the original pieces and the brand unique heritage.

In this beginning of the 21st century, TAG Heuer symbolized the fusion of technical and design, sport and glamor, prestige and performance.

TAG HEUER, winner of the category “Best Chronograph” with the GC Caliper Calibre 36 in Mexico

For the second time in Mexico more than 20 of the most coveted brands of high-end watches such as TAG Heuer, Rolex, Mont Blanc, Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Cartier, Gérald Genta, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and more, got together during the 23rd, 24th and 25th of September in the Hotel Four Season in Mexico to unveil to clients, media and VIP consumers their different collections as well as their best timepieces.

During these three days more than 2,300 people and over 300 reporters attended the presentations and conferences given by important watchmakers of the different brands participating. Thomas Houlon, Brand director of TAG Heuer, came from Switzerland and gave a complete presentation on TAG Heuer and Innovation, in which we had full attendance.

During the event`s closing dinner, a jury comprised by experts in watchmaking from Mexico, Spain, Portugal and Asia, rewarded TAG Heuer, winner of the Category “Best Chronograph” with the Grand Carrera Caliper caliber 36, against Audemars Piguet and Mont Blanc.
